About the licence
A NSW PWC licence allows you to operate a personal watercraft (PWC), such as a jet ski, on NSW waterways. To hold a PWC licence, you must also hold a NSW General Boat Driving Licence (GBL).
You must be 12 years or older to obtain a NSW PWC licence, with special restrictions applying to licence holders under 16.
Before applying for your licence, you’ll need to complete the required boating and PWC safety education, successfully pass the NSW boat and PWC knowledge tests, and meet the required practical boating experience requirements.
Once licensed, you’ll have the knowledge required to operate a PWC safely and responsibly on NSW waterways.

1. Attend the course
Book a date that suits you and attend your PWC licence course. Our experienced trainers will cover the required PWC safety knowledge and prepare you for the official test.
2. Pass the PWC exam
Complete the official NSW PWC licence knowledge test at the course. Once you successfully pass, you’ll receive your PWC licence qualification paperwork.
3. Go to Service NSW
Take your qualification paperwork to Service NSW within 12 months to purchase your PWC licence. There’s no further testing required.
Already have a NSW boat licence? That’s all you need to do. If you don’t, you’ll also need to complete the NSW General Boat Licence requirements, which can be done through the same course.
